Next we dive into something very Caribbean.
A little nod to my heritage.
‘Mama Say’ is a playful reminder to young ladies to be
mindful, not to waste time, to be sure to take advantage of
the little opportunities afforded to them.
I strive to be a positive influence to these young ladies.
Look at their faces, how happy and hopeful they are, have
you ever seen anything so cute?
I had no intention of writing this song lol.
Matchume Zango is a traditional musician, very talented,
but the instruments he introduced me to sounded like they
were from another planet.
I was challenged.
So I was quite surprised when it was finished, I hadn’t
written anything that even resembled that song before. I
chalked it up to “strange” and moved on to something else.
But now, it’s one of my absolute favorites!
My sister, Jemilla Francis is a creative. She not only sings
beautifully and writes the richest songs and poems,
but she also paints, and she’s preparing something special.
She’s painting her impression of the song ‘Mama Say’.
I probably could’ve simply had her tell you what she thought
of the song, but I’m extra and brown girls should have big
dreams, also, this is way more fun.
